WELCOME

“Being a Postpartum doula is not just a job for me, it’s a calling. I understand the birth process, and I know how important after care and support are after birth.”-Kenda

What do I do as your Postpartum Doula?

As your Postpartum Doula, I provide post-birth education and information, teach comfort measures and help you discover your parenting options.

You want a great experience after birth? What does that look like for you? This is your birth, your baby, your voice. It is my job to support all your choices. Postpartum is an intense, amazing journey, and I’m here for you, step by step.

You know your body and your priorities. Your partner (if you have one) knows you. As your postpartum doula, I know birth. Your midwife or obstetrician will be in and out of the birth space, and you can’t predict who’ll be there on the day you give birth. Family visits, older siblings have adjustments, and energy and attitudes change. Your doula is steady and familiar, and I’ll be with you as you navigate.

As your postpartum doula, I am there to support you.

Birth

Congratulations! Your little one has arrived and your ready for an extra hand to support you. Email or text us and we will set up your first session.

Postpartum Visit #1

Each session begins with a debrief of how you are adjusting and what you wish to accomplish from the session. We will check in at the end of the session to see if the length of time worked for you.

Community

Each session is designed to suit your needs in the moment. You might choose to spend the entire session debriefing, or want half the time spent on breastfeeding advice and the other half want to nap & rest while your infant is looked after. These decisions are decided at the start of each session. Sessions last between 4 - 18 hours (see packages on next page).

FAQ

01. WHAT IS A POSTPARTUM DOULA?

Basically, a postpartum doula is like a BFF / life coach / wise sage / maid of honor for all things after birth. They support and empower you to make the best choices for you and your family and leave the medical side of things to the folks wearing scrubs. As a maternity care specialist, your Graceful Healing Postpartum doula is trained in all aspects of the journey to parenthood, starting from after birth care all the way to the first year after baby.

02. WHO USES A POSTPARTUM DOULA?

In short, ANY new or soon to be parent. Whether through birth, adoption, or surrogacy, you deserve someone that’s 100% on your team, looking out for you & your wellness. Inclusivity is key to how we operate; we’ll come into your birth or parenting space totally judgement-free - no matter what your family looks like.

03. WHAT WON'T A POSTPARTUM DOULA DO?

Postpartum doulas do not provide medical services, treatments, or diagnosis for mother or baby, nor do we provide heavy housekeeping. We also do not drive clients or infants. A postpartum doula is many things, but a cleaner, nanny, or driver is not one of them!

04. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DOULA AND A NANNY?

Whereas a nanny cares only for your children, a postpartum doula cares for both mom & baby in the tender time following birth. This means that along with helping you become the best parents for your baby, your postpartum doula is also knowledgeable about a mother’s special needs in the postpartum period and is able to facilitate a smooth emotional and physical transition to motherhood. As well, postpartum doulas are trained in lactation support and provide the help or encouragement you need.

05. WHEN DOES A DOULA START WORKING?

Postpartum doula care begins once you are ready to have her come to your home and that may be within days after the birth. We generally spend 1- 5 days a week with your family for a minimum of 3 hours per day. We have worked with families for anywhere from 1 week to 6 months. Beyond 6 months most clients require more of a nanny service.
